running without thermostat

my father just recently got a rebuilt engine installed by my race mechanic, everything works fine, except thermostat he is using is a cheap auto zone one, he said temps are always low, check engine light comes on sometimes, so he was trying without a thermostat,it work fine, no he went to drop off my sis in law to school, drive is 5 hours, the oil hose pop off and car stopped, can that be a issue without driving with one,he put hose back on works well.

Not sure if driving without a thermostat would cause an oil hose to come loose, but I wouldn't recommend it. Without one, the engine will never get up to proper operating temperature and thus not work efficiently. Race engines are pretty different from your regular consumer engines as their cooling needs are different among other things.

FYI, really need to work punctuation, spelling and grammar, very difficult reading your posts.
