82 Carb Help Please

The problem:

I can't get my truck started without physically pouring fuel into the carb, nor does it stay running after it fires up.

What I've checked:

I'm getting fuel from the gas tank to the carb, thus all filters, lines and pumps outside the carb are good.

I checked the floats and pumps in the carb; they all seem to be in good working repair.

I blew air through the carb so the channels in it should be clear.

I siphoned the old gas out and put in fresh premium gas.

What I have questions on:

I had this truck running a few years ago but had to let it sit for a while until the title cleared. Since then, I did get a vacuum diagram and hooked up all the lines, I can't remember if I ever had it running after the lines were hooked up. Could vacuum line cause this much of a problem?

================================================== ===============

I getting really discouraged here and would greatly appreciate some help. Thank you in advance for anything you may offer.

I'm going to go mill over my Chilton to see if there is something in there that might be helpful.

Check the fuel cut solenoid. It is on the carb. Cylindrical, has two wires going to it: Black - Ground, White with black stripe - +12V. It should open when you turn the ignition and you should hear a faint click. You can put your finger on it an fell the click easier. If it doesn't, no fuel gets to the idle circuit. If you are getting +12V to the white/black stripe, then the solenoid is bad. This is fairly common.

Checked, seems to be working just fine. It's getting power and I can feel the clicking. I'm thinking that I might take the carb apart and see if the jets and seats are clogged.

Can you see the fuel level at the center of the site glass in the bowl?

If you look down the throat and work the linkage, can you see the pump shoot a spray of gas into the throat?

switched usernames lol. there is fuel in the bowl when you look through the sight. not halfway, all the way full. and there is no gas shooting down into the engine. I cleaned the jets out, they were dirty. I'm thinking that some of the channels in the carb might be clogged. Would that bucket of carb cleaner at the auto store eat all that sticky just out of the carbs channels? I feel like it's gonna need something really strong.

That's one problem, it should only be halfway up the site glass.

It's quite possible some of the passages are dirty or clogged. You're going to have to tear it apart to clean it properly, so you may as well rebuild it at the same time. Get a quality kit, a half dozen cans of carb cleaner, and cans of air to blow the passages out when you're done.
