AT Tires and MPGs your Results

I have 2004 Tacoma V6 Auto and am in the market for new tires, want to go to an AT type but the gas issues are a problem this is a daily driver plus. I need input on MPG results using major brand ATs size 265/70/16 stock size versus what you got with BF Rugged Trails. Researching Tirerack.com the Firestone Destination AT is a tire I am leaning towards ,any info on this tire on V6 Taco would be greatly appreciated,on Tirerack reviews this tire is smooth and noise free for an AT price is right and has UNI-T tread technology,Ive note a couple of reviewers on Tirerack saying they lost 2 MPGs after install one said a loss of .50mpg ,trying to find a compromise with hard facts on Taco 4x4 V6 TRD AT tire usage and MPGs please post your findings with your brand tires. Thanx

You should be more concerned with treadware, road noise, and traction ratings. Picking tires based on how it might impact milage is silly. I have not even heard of any study concerning milage and tire brand. Your driving habits have more of an impact on milage than your tires(unless you have changed tire size). Not only that, but trying to pick up 1mpg is worthless. All that means is that you will get an extra 18 miles out of a tank. That translates to about 1 gal or about $3. You have to be a seriously cheap person if you are going this far to save a buck or two. Gas prices went up. Quit obsessing about a few MPG. If you are that concerned with milage then get a car. You own a truck just accept it.

Redneck noise dude thats all that is,some people use thier trucks other than swimming in a lake of s--t like you. Do you go pick up your old lady for a date with your truck covered in sludge, only a real low IQ would say that tire tread and oversize tires are the only ones people should have on thier trucks. Go take a shower and use some deordrant too,go clean out the out house and find your brain. Being called cheap is a lot better than being called a low class idiot like you are. Go swimming in the bath tub and scrub your bonystinkin arse. Your stupid and stinky just accept it.

I sugest that you buy tires that you need don't get off road tires if you don't plan to take the vehcle of roads. get a good all season tire and be happy. off road tires cost more and depending on the tire you get will wear out more quickly. but if you do go off roading then a good pair of off road tires makes a heck of a difference when off roading. even better if you can afford to and have the storage space have both sets.

That is quite a mouth full. I am not really interested in exchanging pointless insults. I am going to restate what you should be looking for in a tire.

If you go back and read my post you will find that I in no way advocate purchacing an agressive off road tire. I am merly pointing out the fact that you should not be expecting to see meaningful milage changes based on tread pattern. If you don't have anything to say related to tire choice I am not interested.

Thanks for input Lancekilgore I do go offroad say 30% of time this truck is a daily driver and work commuter 75-90miles a day plus tolls I am a Union Heavy Equipment Operator Local 825 and have to travel Northeast Metro area for my liveihood which aint inexpensive,so I was looking for maybe a compromise in the tires was looking for some input from people who use certain tires and what thier experiences might be in regards to ride comfort, noise, handling and Mpg. As far as the TN Hillybilly is concerned you better watch your mouth you go calling people you dont know unflattering names you might a get a foot broke off in your ass some day so be carefull. If thats a mouthfull so what, just remember you started it.

Johnny---Reading this post and the last time I conversed with you, I'd stick with an All-Season tire. The BFG Rugged Trails aren't bad, but the Revo's I have (AT obviously) are a rougher ride, but the great benefits of the Revo--ice, snow, wet and off road traction--would probabley be useless to you. I noticed the day I put the Revo's on the ride was different, personally I grew to like it and loved the snow traction (I'd definatley buy them again!) but that night I went out with my wife and she was like "your truck rides like crap now and you spent 500$ on these tires?"

Heres a good link on tires.

Thanks for the post about REVOS ,just happened to see a set of Firestone Destination ATs mounted on a Chevy Suburban today wasnt overall impressed with how they looked on truck but they sure get raving reviews on Tirerack.com about everything . Im in no rush I got plenty of time to shop around and get input from others, summers around the corner and wont need good traction till Fall/Winter time. Thinking about those ATs because was considering a move to N.E . Pennsylvania maybe and I might need something a little meatier than BFs for that terrain,in doing this my work commute will increase and fuel costs will be rising too.

I have BFG AT on my 01 doublecab and am very happy with them. This is my daily driver but I also make it out to the ranch a couple times a month. I did not notice any decrease in mpg when I switched from the stock tire to this. So far the wear has been very good after 15K on them. They are a little bit noiser with the more aggressive tread but not bad IMHO. I am pleased with how they handle wet roads and off road. It is not a mud tire but a good compromise for my needs. My buddy got 75K out of his last set with proper tire pressure and rotation.

Those Bfs are probably the best truck tire ever produced by BF Goodrich and are great looking to boot. They might be a liitle more than Im bargining for as far a highway ride, majority of driving is highway but they are sure an awesome tire when it comes to offpavement driving. Thanx for the input.

I just put on General Grabber ATs on my 2002 V6 TRD extra cab. They are smooth and quiet on the highway and I have seen no loss of mileage.

You can't go wrong with a set of BFG A/T's. Great tread wear, great traction, tough as nails, quiet, and tough looking! I run a set of 265-75-16's on my 04 DC 4x4, and I love'em.

It's hilarious to see how much of a badass everyone is when all were doing is punching keys on a keyboard and not drinkin beers together in a bar! As far as the tires go I would say hands down go with the BFGoodrich All Terrains. I have had 4 sets now and have gotten around 75k out of each set with regular rotations. They were pretty damn bald when I took em off but I still got the mileage out of them. I do a fair amount of off roading and they have done really well for my needs. They are quite on the road and I have only seen about a 1/2 mile decrease in overall MPG with them.

yes I noticed I lost 1-2 mpg when I went from HT to AT same brand and make of tire I also lost the same going from 265-70-16 to 265-75-16 add on the S/C and cams and I am getting 17-18 mpg out of my 2.7. I will be going back to 265-70-16 on my next tire change bit thats 2-3 years from now. Sigh. I have not decided on HT or AT but leaning toward AT. also I got the commercial grade 6 ply tires and they weigh a freakin ton but wear like iron and hook up pretty good in the snow. Street traction has suffered compared to the HT minor amount but I can feel it. going from 265-70 to 265-75 is a 1 inch height difference 31 inch to 32 inch.
