2004 Camry vibration when decellerating

I've got a problem I hope you guys can give me some advice on. In the last week or so I have noticed that my 2004 Camry (4cyl automatic...base model) has begun to have a vibration when you let off the throttle. The vibration is coming from the front of the car and seems to be the right front specifically. It also seems to be most noticeable at highway speeds. I have ruled out a tire balance problem since it only seems to happen when I'm off the throttle and since I rotated the tires and the vibration did not move. I have also ruled out a warped rotor since it only happens when I am not using the brakes. The car has approximately 150,000 miles about 90% of which was interstate driving. I'm guessing it may be a CV joint going bad but I took a look at them and they seem ok. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Engine Ticking Noise in Idle

I got a 2003 Camry 4cyl with 100k miles and its been running a bit rough lately. I changed the spark plugs and its running a lot smoother. The steering wheel no longer shakes but there is a ticking noise when the car idles. (goes away when you accelerate) Trying to figure out what it is found this video of a celica that sounds just like my car:

You Tube

Anyone have something similar? Is this a lose timing chain, valves, manifold leak?

Reply 1 : Engine Ticking Noise in Idle

I have the exact sound!.. Anybody know whats the problem??

Reply 2 : Engine Ticking Noise in Idle

Those are your fuel injectors pulsing. It's normal bro.

Reply 3 : Engine Ticking Noise in Idle

The problem is its a bit louder than it used to be, and it has trouble accelerating below 2k rpm.. still feels slugish, and i don't really like driving a diesel.

I have some carborator cleaner and an exhaustive list of stuff i'm gonna check:

partially clogged EGR valve, fuel injectors

dirty throttle body

air filter

leak in intake or exhaust manifold ( or vortex baffle?)

tension pulley on timing belt

loose timing chain

bad ignition coil

valve lifters

dirty fuel filter

transmission fluid... and torque converter

loose belt on alternator

The 2az has a timing chain. Do you notice any smoke or any type of coolant loss? Have you checked compression? This engine has a tendency for head bolt failure.

So i just cleaned the throttle body since it was really dirty. I put the key in the ignition, car starts like its about to die for 3 sec while choking on the carborator cleaner fumes and then it revs like a mofo. Success!

I found another problem though, rusted exhaust pipe near the engine. That's why its so loud. There is smoke coming through the front hood. yikes.

Importz: Here's a thread on cleaning throttle body... but don't use a screw driver like in that picture. I just used some piece of plastic covered with a rag not to scratch anything.

that weave cylinder at 0:36 is leaking exhaust fumes into my hood for some reason.

Is it supposed to leak?

If you can do rear brakes you can fix it. If not take it in.

first, isolate the cause. axle seal leak and wheel cylinder leak produce very similar looking symptoms. my gut instinct tells me it is indeed as you suspect, the axle seal. BUT, you don't want to do replacing parts that don't need replaced, so just double check.

Toyota dealer rip off in NY

After months of getting the runaround from this dealer I figured I should let other people know in case you or someone you know is planning on getting a car from this place.

In December of 2010 I purchased my 2nd vehicle from Interstate Toyota in Monsey NY( rockland county NY).

When I looked at the car I mentioned to the salesman that the rear suspension looks low he stated "Don't worry just make a appointment for service and well take care of it"

About 2 weeks after I paid top dollar for this car ( plus I paid extra for a bumper to bumper warranty) I went back to interstate Toyota service and told them that I have 2 issues with the car 1 that there is a technical bulletin for a transmission problem on this make & model so I wanted them to check if this was already done by the prior owner,

and 2 The rear suspension of the car was sitting very low.

After talking to the service manager she assured me that I was signing paperwork that if it's found that any of these problems are of my doing then I will have to pay $103.00 diagnostic fee.

After they kept me there for 4 hours they tell me that the bulletin was already taken care of, and that my car IS sitting lower then it should but because it is still within their measurement they will not replace it.

And then they had the guts to hit me with a $240.00 bill for diagnosing each item ($103.00 for each plus tax & miscellanies fee) when I refused to pay it the service manager became really nasty and immature and told me that I'm not getting my car back and then she just refused to talk to me (like a 5 year old).

I went in to the sales manager and he told me it's not his department and I was told to call this guy and that guy with no luck.

Until I went in to the showroom and caused a scene they finally released my car.

I emailed interstate Toyota and got all kind of responses but no followup. I then went to 3 different mechanics including a Toyota dealer and they all said that I need to replace my struts and springs so after getting the run around for 2 months I went and replaced them by a mechanic.

When I emailed interstate Toyota they told me to fax them the bill but again no followup just talk. Until I threatened to go public then all of a sudden I get a phone call from a Jim McMahon Stating that he is the owner of the company and he is going to take me to court over defamation e.t.c.

So I did what i should have done before I went there and goggled Interstate Toyota and found that I wasn't the first one they shafted every review I found had similar stories. here are some examples.

So I am reaching out to all these people and my attorney is going to file a class action.

so if you know any one in NY thinking of going to Interstate Toyota have them read some reviews first. thank you

I've moved this to the Feedback: Buyers, Sellers, and Vendors forum. This way people looking for the good and the bad will find it and not just the Avalon owners.

There's a redirect in the Avalon forum for those that saw it and go looking for it again.

Good luck!

WTB cheap 98 camry VSV

Hey guys whats up, Ive been looking on the web I think the cheapest I found was 58 bucks, anyone know if it could be found cheaper or anyone selling one here?

'11 SE - Heated seat controls?

I really like most things about the '11 Highlander but everytime I use the heated seat controls I feel like I'm on one of those hidden camera shows - waiting for the guy to jump out and tell me I've been punked.

I am not a design engineer but whoever came up with the design needs to find a new career. Manipulating that tiny "stem" while driving can be a challenge. If wearing any type of gloves it is all but impossible.

Here's an idea... why couldn't they have made the spring loaded button the ON/OFF switch? That way once you had the temperature set the way you like it turning it off and on would be a simply matter of pressing the button.

I'm coming from a '01 HL Limited which had the nice big heated seat push buttons right on the console. The '11 is a big step backwards.

Reply 1 : '11 SE - Heated seat controls?

I agree, the switch is not the best. Its also covered by the shifter.

Reply 2 : '11 SE - Heated seat controls?

Maybe that's Toyota's point....to not play with it while driving. You know how they are, always finding ways to CYA, so to speak, like Nav overrides, etc.

Reply 3 : '11 SE - Heated seat controls?

Granted it's annoying but I was even more appalled when my dealership courtesy rental 2011 corolla had the clock around that same area...

Reply 4 : '11 SE - Heated seat controls?

I kinda like the way the buttons look like that wit the little shifting knob, i kinda think tats a bit classy touch to the interior design

Reply 5 : '11 SE - Heated seat controls?

THIS is my biggiest gripe about the HL interior! I hate using these little nubs, I feel like I'm gonna brake them or bump the shifter.

My 11 year old GP has a huge switch with two options, Hi or Lo. I love it. Simple to use, and practially impossible to get wrong while driving. I dont have to look at what I'm doing. In the HL I always have to look for these little nubs, push them to pop them out, and then move my hand awkwardly to turn the dial.
